 Caring for the
Supply Preacher

1. The pastor or a committee should select the supply reacher.

 2. Make arrangements several weeks in advance.

 3. Share significant information that will help the supplypreacher know the church, times of service, and other expectations - when the invitation is confirmed.

 4. Share the full name and telephone number of his
contact person.  Agree on an arrival time and set a location at the church where they will meet.

 5. Provide an advance copy of the order of service (Email or fax it if necessary).

 6. Introduction Information:  Don't ask the minister what he wants said about himself.  Gather information and keep it modest, short, and meaningful.

 7. If the supply is to serve both morning and evening services arrange for meals, rest,  and afternoon lodging.

 8. Give adequate travel expense reimbursement,  honorarium, and meal reimbursements, and motel costs.

 9. Share in advance any special features that are planned for the day.

 10. Have the pastor or committee chair to follow-up with a letter, call or email and give honest, positive responses concerning the day.  If the church tapes the services, perhaps send him a copy.
